Early detection is the best tool against breast cancer. Our goal is to encourage and help women to enter the health care system earlier to improve early detection in the hope of saving lives. The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization offers mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women. Watch and see how our services can help you:
In addition to our geographic service area of southeastern PA, southern New Jersey, Delaware and the Poconos, we have identified certain communities that need additional support in breast health education and outreach. With the help of community volunteers and a "train the trainer" model, Linda Creed provides outreach to the African American and to lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons. These special programs, Safe Circle and Rainbow Circle are unlike any other offered by local breast cancer organizations.
African-American women are often diagnosed with more advanced breast cancer and are more likely to die from this disease than any other group of women. Linda Creed has a response to this situation: Safe Circle.
Safe Circle is an outreach program that is culturally relevant to the African-American community. Through church and community-based organizations, educational facilities, work sites and small groups, Safe Circle provides breast health information, screenings and support services.
Called “Safe Circles” because they are designed to address women's fears and worries, the workshops increase knowledge and understanding and encourage participants to maintain good breast health. Information about myths and barriers that prevent African-American women from accessing screening and follow-up treatment are focal points of the sessions.
The Safe Circle Advisory Task Force along with LCBCO provides direction for the program.
If you would like to attend a Safe Circle program or become a volunteer, call the Linda Creed at 215-564-3700 (Toll-Free Number: 1-877-99-CREED) for additional information.
Sometimes cultural stigmas and barriers and to health care can prevent lesbians, bisexual women and transgender persons from accessing the breast health care they need. The Linda Creed Rainbow Circle is an outreach designed with and for this community. Rainbow Circle symbolizes a circle of support and strength. With every connection, the circle grows. Every challenge faced together makes the circle stronger. Shared knowledge and experience strengthens the circle and its members.
Rainbow Circle provides inclusive education, information and services that including access to optimum breast health care. Well-trained volunteers present breast health information and address concerns in a comfortable, sensitive and understanding environment. These breast health educational workshops are specifically designed to address LBGTQ fears and worries, increase knowledge and understanding and encourage participants to take control of their own good health.
The Rainbow Circle Advisory Task Force helps Linda Creed provide direction for the program. If you are a lesbian or bisexual woman or a transgender person in need of a mammogram, or if you would like to help educate others, please call Linda Creed at 215-564-3700 for additional information.
